Friends Forever!!!

Today I was able to reflect on the friendships in my life and the kind of friend I try to be. I wasn't thinking of any friendship in particular, though my friendship with Laura started the thought process. I met with the lovely Laura Grace today for lunch and then a jaunt to the American History Museum. It was a little LLHN fun in DC. I don't care how much time passes between seeing her, I will always love that girl. It's the kind of friendship where time and space may keep you apart temporarily, but when you're together again, you can pick up where you left off. I love that. There aren't too many people with whom you can have that sort of connection. Anne of Green Gables calls it kindred spirits I think. I call it real friendship. When I care for someone and have developed a deeper relationship with them, it doesn't matter how much time may pass between telephone calls or emails. If they called me after several years and needed a favor, I would gladly do it.

It's common for friends to drift apart. People move away and when you're living in completely different hemispheres, you simply don't communicate as often. I don't mind if people don't keep in touch every day or every week or even every month. I don't need the reassurance of a phone call or an email to know that they're my friend. I know that families are automatically that way. That's why it's okay to send out annual Christmas cards and have family reunions every few years. My friendships are like those guaranteed familial relationships. They have a life-long guarantee with no strings attached.

Now I'm learning how to do all this, so it looks retarded, but I thought I'd try to post some pictures of friends (some, not all)
